DMT Rentals is a service
offered by the Douglas Morrisson Theatre, a
250-seat, year-round community theatre presenting five fully-staged
plays or musicals, plus three chorus concerts, every year. The theatre
is a program of the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District. You may
find out more about the theatre on the About Us page here, or at our
other Web site, at dmtonline.org, and you can find out about the
programs and classes offered by the District on their own Web site, at
haywardrec.org.
Although we have been a part of the local theatre community for 29
years, we are a small organization with a very small permanent staff.
Because of this, we are not able at this time to offer the services of
a larger, profit-making business, such as walk-in service, pickup or
delivery, or shipping items.
Rentals and returns are by appointment only, and we ask that you call
the appropriate department (Props, Costumes, or Set Pieces) a few days
ahead of time to schedule your visit. Please note that you'll need to
make a separate appointment with each department, although we will do
our best to coordinate our times so you can have more than one
appointment during your visit.
Our rental hours are generally from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday
thru Friday, although we may need to modify these hours during our own
production periods.
We have three separate storage areas, which are very active warehouses
with a constant turnaround, and therefore not set up for browsing.
Please bring a list of what you need so we can help you find it
quickly. A lot of our customers build a list from this Web site and
e-mail to us to determine availability and rental fees.
All our props, furniture, costumes, and set pieces have been used or
rented for theatrical purposes for a number of years and show signs of
use. Although this state generally works for stage purposes, where the
audience is at a distance, it may or may not work for applications
where the audience is up close, or where a camera will focus in on the
object. For this reason, all our items are rented “as
is.” If you have questions about the suitability of a
particular item for your purposes, please call and we’ll be
happy to discuss it with you.
Because of our small staff and production schedule, we do not always
have people available to help load and unload your vehicle. If you're
picking up or returning heavy items such as furniture, please plan on
bringing appropriate help.
We cannot loan items "on approval." Any items rented and returned
"unused" will be charged a rental or restocking fee.
Please note that at this time we cannot hold items or put them on
reserve for a future rental date. We are working on a way of doing
this, but, for now, all items are rented on an "as available" basis. We
will do our best to accommodate your needs, but, at the most, we may be
able to hold items for one or two days.
We try to keep our rental fees very reasonable. However, due to our own
increasing costs, we can't offer discounts to non-profits and similar organizations.
For the same reason, our rental fees are based on a minimum of a one-week
period. For instance, an overnight rental or a weekend rental
are billed as a one-week period.
Rental fees are due and payable in full at the time items are either
picked up or returned. Please make all checks payable to "HARD - DMT
Rentals." We also accept Visa and MasterCard. Some items may require a
security deposit in the full amount of the value of the item.
Items not returned by the due date will be assessed a late fee, up to
the full replacement value of the item as stated in the Rental Contract.
All items are the property of the Hayward Area Recreation and Park
District. Items are rented "as is" and must be returned in the same
condition as rented. Items may not be altered in any way without the
prior written consent of the District. The renter agrees to reimburse
the District for the full replacement value of items returned in
damaged condition.
